The New Generation experience kicked off on October 30th when Gary Crosby and Nathaniel Facey dropped into BIMM to deliver an amazing workshop to a crowd of BA students. They dazzled them with a sax/bass duet before Nathaniel gave an inspirational account of what playing jazz is all about, before getting everyone involved in a multi-layered jam session, while Gary shared his insights with the many bassists who’s turned out to see him.

Later they joined Shirley Tetteh and Moses Boyd for a killer sell-out show at the Verdict. You can read the Jazzwise review here;

New Generation Jazz kicked off with an action packed workshop and a sold-out crowd at an explosive evening and performance by Gary Crosby’s Groundation.

Bassist, Gary Crosby and saxophonist, Nathaniel Facey led a hands on workshop for the students at BIMM. It was a very interactive and informative experience which left the students and all who attended inspired and wanting more! Many who attended the workshop couldn’t help but want to see more from the guys, and who’d blame them. (Check out our twitter @newgenjazz to see a short clip of Nathaniel going at it post Workshop)

Later that evening Groundation gave an incredible performance at the Verdict Jazz Club to a packed out audience. The band, led by the eminent Gary Crosby, featured award winning saxophonist, Nathaniel Facey, Mobo award winning drummer, Moses boyd and one of the most exciting and creative young female guitarist to ever come out of the UK Jazz scene, Shirley Tetteh.

A gig which had a jubilated crowd up in arms and cheering at every note, New Generation Jazz couldn’t have hoped for a better launch.

Big thanks to Groundation, Tomorrow’s warrior’s, BIMM, The Verdict and all who came and made it such an incredible launch.

Up next,

Jamie Leeming Project featuring Emily Dankworth.

New Generation Jazz kicks off in fine style this October 30th with an appearance from Gary Crosby’s Groundation.

Gary is a major figure in the development of UK jazz, through his fine bass playing and his work as a founder of Tomorrow’s Warriors, which has incubated many of the finest players on the scene today. Groundation is his collaborative which bringing together some inspirational young players to mix up jazz and heavy progressive grooves with Afrobeat accents. It’s the perfect band to begin our gig season as it embodies everything we’re about; bringing the jazz tradition to the New generation. Gary and the band will be dropping into BIMM earlier on the day to share some of their insights and skills in a student workshop.

With our full year’s line-up nearly completed, we’re working away behind the scenes to set up as many links as we can between all the many different folks involved in playing, promoting, teaching or just enjoying jazz here in Brighton. Get in touch if you’d like to get involved!.
